CSA All The Way!

Even though it’s winter, most farmers have their heads in spring, planning for a summer bounty. If you have never participated in a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), this would be a great year to try one! A CSA is a program that allows farmers to utilize paid in advanced funds to plan better for a prosperous harvest and in return, the customer gets a guaranteed amount of products either weekly (Full Share) or every other week (Half Share).

I love CSAs because it makes me eat more veggies and challenges me to utilize everything in the box. If you get something you don’t know what to do with, the farmer can provide recipes and perhaps help you find your new favorite food item! I usually get a Full Share as I am no stranger to sharing with friends and letting them know how a CSA can benefit the farm and their family. I also try a different farm each season because even different regions of our area can provide different products.

Fall Creek Farms
We will be offering an 18 week program that will run the first week in June to the last week in September. Our CSA offers a variety of fruits and vegetables, with a focus on traditional pantry staples and seasonal bounty!

In your baskets, you can expect around 8 different varieties of vegetables with the occasional addition of delicious seasonal fruits!

Here at Fall Creek Farms, we put an emphasis on growing out-of-season. For example, this means that when cucumbers and tomatoes are bountiful in the summer you can still get lettuce and spinach from us, which are traditionally cold weather crops!

We try to follow a rotation based on these categories and harvest availability. We try to put one or more vegetables from each of the following groups in your basket weekly.

· Brassicas: Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts

· Tubers: Red Potatoes, White Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Yukon Gold Potatoes

· Roots: Carrots, Beets, Turnips, Radishes.

· Greens: Kale, Mustard, Collards.
