The Face Of Fromage

One of the most familiar faces of the market is Sequatchie Cove Creamery Co-Owner Padgett Arnold who has been a vendor since the market’s beginning and has occupied multiple roles in our area’s agricultural community long before the market began. A former longtime farm manager at Crabtree Farms, former workshare at Sequatchie Cove Farms, former manager of our marvelous market, and current market Vice President, Padgett is more than a mother, wife, friend, and cheese connoisseur.

Padgett is not the only face associated with the creamery as her equally engaged husband Nathan founded it and works diligently at the farm while Padgett brings the creamy goodness to town every Wednesday. If you ever don’t see Padgett set up (then get to know another Sequatchie Cove Creamery face Lauren), its because she and Nathan are off to cheese conventions and competitions winning awards from the likes of the American Cheese Society and the Good Food Awards.

Their creamery is 100% solar powered, the whey waste is fed to Sequatchie Cove Farm’s hogs, and before the pandemic you could visit the Trading Post on Saturdays and visit the farm in all its glory. Until further notice, you have to preorder for pick up there or at the market. You can also support local by purchasing their cheese at several retailers around town like Bleu Fox Cheese Shop on Main St. or Bread & Butter in Redbank. Their goal is “to nourish and honor ourselves, the nature around us, and the awesome community that supports us.” As I have never been a cheese lover, I told Padgett from day one that I was cheesy enough so didn’t really buy any. We both laughed and with her knowledge, kindness and passion for the product she taught me that my new favorite-can’t-live-without-food-item is Dancing Fern. Support them, nourish yourself and honor the earth—its that simple—like a cheese plate.
