Eggcited for the season!

As some of you know, we do have several vendors that offer farm fresh eggs and it is so nice to watch loyal customers purchase them and even watch some customers religiously share the love and buy a dozen from a different vendor each week. It is so heart warming to know that everyone who steps foot on market grounds is making a conscious effort in their meal planning and the well-being of the world overall.

The founders of the MSFM, Bill and Miriam Keener of Sequatchie Cove Farm, have recently amped up their egg game by expanding their flock to over 1,000 hens with the help of their son Kelsey. They shared a recent post that broke down the costs of how much it costs to raise non-gmo, free range hens versus CAFO (concentrated animal feeding operation) and the difference is about $30,000! As many folks know, you don’t become a farmer to become rich. You become a farmer to enrich lives.

According to their page, the egg business is the fastest growing enterprise on the farm. They more than doubled their production tin 2019 and plan to do the same thing this year. From their page:
“Thanks so much Chattanooga for helping us step up our egg game! This allows us to support more team members on the farm as well as adding an incredible amount of fertility to the pastures as we add more and more birds to the rotation… this not only grows more nutritious grass for our cows (which makes tastier beef and @sequatcheese )but also helps break parasite and biting fly reproduction cycles as well. These are the kinds of symbiotic relationships that define a diversified regenerative farm. Each enterprise helps support many other aspects of life on the farm enabling more biological diversity and overall improving the health of our environment. So keep on eating those eggs and remember that you are playing a vital role in this complex web of life that we call Sequatchie Cove Farm.”

Their delicious eggs are for sale at the market but you can also purchase them at the SCF Trading Post every Saturday from 9a-11, Pruett’s Market on Signal Mountain and Main St. Meats on Main St. Don’t forget to enjoy them off the breakfast menu at Niedlov’s, who is their largest egg customer

To know all the Sequatchie Cove Farm happenings, follow them on social media and subscribe to their newsletter here and definitely stop by their booth to get the first hand stories too. And pick up some of their beef, lamb, pork or fresh veggies while you’re there.
