Pig Mountain is the pork enterprise of Dayspring Farm located in Altamont, TN. Owned and operated by Richard & Christia Crook, whose faces you know well from the market booth every week!
We are a farrow-to-finish operation, meaning all of our feeder pigs are born and raised right here on the farm. The pigs are regularly rotated through a mixture of pasture and woodlot to allow the land to rest and recover while ensuring there are plenty of fresh forages to eat. We supplement their diet with non-gmo corn and soybean meal grown by our neighbor, mixed with minerals specifically formulated for swine health. All supplemental feed is free of hormones and antibiotics.
Our breeding herd is a mixture of Red Wattles, Berkshires, Hampshires, and Durocs. Their piglets are hearty, well adapted to living outdoors year-round, and thrive from the hybrid vigor provided by the crossing of these breeds.
In addition to offering a wide selection of pork cuts and sausage flavors, we also render lard and make small-batch soaps. We make hand, body, and face soaps in various scents as well as scrub bars and dish soap.
